UConn Huskies

The UConn basketball team is known as the UConn Huskies. Back when UConn was still the Connecticut Agricultural College, the team was known as the Aggies. Once the school changed its name, a new mascot was needed. They decided on Jonathan after Connecticut Hero Jonathan Trumbull, who was Connecticut’s governor during the Revolutionary War.

Their mascot is Jonathan the Husky, and all Siberian Husky that makes appearances at basketball events. While the dog is taken care of by an on-campus fraternity, Jonathan is usually placed in a home. That is a more suitable home for a dog than a frat house. We are currently at Jonathan XIII, and the first Husky came to campus in 1934. Jonathan is a very pretty animal, and they do a good job of making him royal for all his UConn basketball appearences.

There is also a traditional UConn Husky mascot that is a dude in a suit. He is ok, but I like real thing better. Plus the suit is skinny and doesn’t have a mane..
