UConn Gampel Pavilion

Gampel Pavilion is where the UConn Huskies basketball team plays
Gampel Pavilion, UConn basketball’s on-campus home arena is a state-of-the-art dome that welcomes thousands of UConn ticket holders to games played on campus. UConn basketball splits their home games between Gampel and Hartford’s XL Center.
The Harry A. Gampel Pavilion opened back in 1990. The facility has over 171,000 sq. ft. for the crazy fans to scream their heads off. The stadium was part of an extensive UConn sports complex that cost $28 million . The entire project is 320 feet in diameter, while the dome is a whopping 130 feet off the ground!
The capacity of Gampel Pavilion was increased in 1996. The new capacity crowd for UConn Basketball is 10,027, up from 8,241. That makes the UConn basketball facility the largest on-campus basketball stadium in the Northeast.
In my opinion the Gampel Pavilion is one of the best sites in all of college basketball for taking in a game, and I don’t think I’m alone- Gampel Pavilion is always an ‘advance sellout’ when UConn Basketball plays at home. That is part of why UConn basketball tickets are so hard to get a hold of.
The facility got a new scoreboard a few years back that has tons of information. I have also heard that the clubhouse is something else. It includes wood grain ‘pro style’ individual lockers and has a team lounge and “audio-visual area” with a large screen television and satellite. That gives coach Calhoun and the team plenty of opportunity for scouting other teams. And of course there’s an awesome stereo system.
The coaches have some great offices, and the Gampel also houses Connecticut’s Division of Athletics Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance staff. Nearby UConn’s athletic trainers and physical therapists are housed.
