UConn looses historic game to ‘Cuse, looks to NCAA Tournament

March 13, 2009

What a crushing defeat for this tough UConn team on Thursday night, loosing in the second longest game ever in college basketball history. How often do you see a SIX OVERTIME game!? That was some weird will stuff we saw last night, and it has to be a hard game for Jim Calhoun and his team to take. The game was tough enough in regulation time, when the UConn Huskies had to battle back from some big deficits to tie the game with 1.1 seconds left. And lets not forget that Syracuse was lets say 1/1000000000 of a second late on what would have been an incredible buzzer-beater. Anyone that had Big East Basketball Tournament tickets that night will be talking about this game for the rest of their lives! What a show, what a show indeed. When it comes to college hoops, it really cannot get better than a six-overtime game, well unless of course the Huskies had won!

Now, the hard part will be dealing with nearly a week of inaction before all those NCAA Tournament tickets holders walk into UConn’s first game in their quest for yet another NCAA Basketball Championship. Will this be another of UConn’s historic season, or will the loss to ‘Cuse be too much for this team to take. Personally, I think that these guys have what it takes to win, and hopefully the loss will serve as a wake-up call to this team that they need to play each and every second to the top of their ability. “We lost the game because we turned the ball over 27 times and couldn’t make a foul shot,” said coach Jim Calhoun. he is right, and now he has a week to work out what the Huskies did wrong and to address it. We saw in the game that normal basketball players don’t stand much of a chance against Thabeet, so it he can continue playing the way he did and improve on some of the ball handling areas, they Huskies should be in really good shape to at least reach the Final Four, if not go all the way. There is not a better time in sports to buy UConn tickets, so if you are going to be in the area be sure that you are ready with your own seats to the game.
